Hon. Justice Frederick Martin Stephen Egonda-Ntende is a Justice of the Court of Appeal/ Constitutional Court of Uganda. Previously, he served as the Chief Justice of Seychelles (2009-2014), acting Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda, and Justice of the maiden Court of Appeal/Constitutional Court after the promulgation of the 1995 Uganda Constitu- tion. He was also involved in the setting up of an independent judiciary in East Timor, where he served as a Judge of the Court of Appeal.
Hon. Justice Egonda-Ntende lectured law at Makerere University and was the Chairperson of the Law Reporting Committee of the Judiciary in Uganda. He also has extensive expe- rience in dealing with matters of drug trafficking while working as a Judge in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
His Lordship holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Postgradu- ate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre He was called to the bar in 1992 and thereafter practiced law for 9 years between 1982 -1991
Hon. Lady Justice Monica Kalyegira Mugenyi is a Justice of the Court of Appeal of Uganda, serving in that position since October 2019.
Previously, she served as a Judge of the High Court of Uganda. During her time as a Judge, the EAC Heads of State Summit appointed her as a Judge to the East African Court of Jus- tice in December 2013 and consequently, she was designated the Principal Judge in 2015.
Before her ascension to the bench, Hon. Lady Justice Mugenyi was in private practice at Mugenyi & Company Advocates and had served as the Manager of Corporate Services at the Uganda Road Fund. She also worked in the Office of the Attorney General and the Privatization Unit.
Hon. Justice Richard Wejuli Wabwire is a Judge of the High Court of Uganda serving at the International Crimes Division.
After he was appointed a Judge in 2018, Justice Wabwire was posted to the High Court Circuit in Fort Portal and reassigned to the Commercial Division of the High Court in 2019. He has been seconded as a Judge of the First Instance Division of the East African Court of Justice since 2021.
Before his judicial appointment to the High Court, Hon. Justice Wejuli Wabriwe served in various high-profile corporate positions as the Company Secretary and Legal Counsel/ Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, BAT (1998-2005); Corporation Secretary, Kinyara Sug- ar Works Limited (2006-2008); Director, Corporate Relations and Regulatory Affairs, East African Breweries Uganda Limited (2012-2014); Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Affairs at the National Social Security (2014-2018).
Her Worship Sarah Langa Siu is the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. As Chief Registrar, she holds various positions by law and is charged with enrolling Advocates of the Courts of Judicature and licensing them each year, disciplining errant court bailiffs, and chairing the State Funded Legal Representation Implementation Committee.
Sarah started her career as a Magistrate Grade One in 2005. In 2009, she was appointed as one of the pioneer Magistrates of the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court of Ugan- da, a Court where she worked for seven years in different ranks. She rose through the ranks to become the Deputy Registrar of the Anti-Corruption Division in 2014. While serving as the Deputy Registrar of the Anti-Corruption Division, she inaugurated the first ever Court Open Day which has since been adopted as one of the activities to commemorate the In- ternational Anti-Corruption Week celebrated annually from 9th December
H.E. Jan Sadek is the Ambassador of the European Union to Uganda. He is a career diplomat who has served in the Swedish and European Foreign Services for more than 25 years, out of which he has served 14 years in Africa specifically in Sudan, Ethiopia, and now Botswana.
Before his current post, Sadek was representing the EU in Botswana and vis-à-vis SADC. His Excellency previously worked on regional integration, representing his country vis-à- vis the African Union and IGAD, and the European Union vis-à-vis SADC. He has also served as a UN Officer during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and as a member of the OSCE Mission to Sarajevo, in 1994-1995.
Ambassador Sadek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine.
Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego is the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda. He is a seasoned economic policy official who has served in several capacities at various institutions. He has previously served as the MEFMI Executive Director, a policy think-tank in Southern Africa.
Dr Atingi-Ego started his career at the Bank of Uganda rising through the ranks to be- come the Executive Director, Research. In 2008, he took up an assignment as Deputy Di- rector of the African Department with the International Monetary Fund (IMF-AFR) where he made seminal contributions to IMF work on increasing the effectiveness of capacity development and modernizing monetary policy frameworks in developing countries. He championed efforts to achieve improved macroeconomic statistics in the SSA region and in advancing better and more consistent data management practices across the IMF. In addition, he provided strategic guidance to many IMF country teams in the region on pro- gram and surveillance work.
Dr. Atingi-Ego holds a Bachelor’s degree from Makerere University, a Master’s degree from the Cardiff Business School, University of Wales (1991), and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Liverpool (1996).
John F. Kanyemibwa is the Chairperson of the International Centre for Arbitration & Media- tion in Kampala (ICAMEK). He is recognized as a leading practitioner in the fields of corporate advisory and commercial dispute resolution. He is lauded as an ‘Excellent Litigator” by Cham- bers and Partners, in recognition of his expertise in advancing jurisprudence on Banking, Energy, Property, and Employment disputes at the Supreme Court and subordinate Courts.
Through extensive experience that spans a quarter of a century, John has advised on sev- eral notable transactions including the privatization and initial public offers of leading Fi- nancial Institutions and Energy corporations.
John is a holder of an LLM in Commercial & Corporate Law from the University of London, UK, and an LLM in Oil & Gas from the Uganda Christian University.
John Ohaga, SC is an acknowledged expert practitioner in several areas such as administra- tive law, banking and finance, constitutional law, competition law, employment and labor law, property law, public procurement, and sports law. He advises numerous blue-chip companies listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange, private companies, and some of Kenya’s largest state corporations. He also sits on boards of several companies and public tribunals.
As a litigator, Mr. Ohaga represents clients regularly before Kenyan courts at all levels while providing expert opinions and appearing as an expert witness on Kenyan law issues before the courts of England and the United States of America. He has also represented parties as counsel in several arbitration proceedings and acted in numerous disputes as either party-appointed Arbitrator, Sole Arbitrator, or Presiding Arbitrator.
Mr. Ohaga has consistently been ranked as a Leading Individual and Recommended Law- yer for Dispute Resolution and Arbitration on local and international reputable platforms over the past 20 years. These include the Chambers and Partners 2023 Guide for Dispute Resolution and Dispute Resolution: Arbitrators in Band 1. As part of his passion for arbitra- tion, he heads a movement of practitioners changing the landscape of Alternative Dispute Resolution through several committees that establish policy, as well as accredit and train lawyers in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. His most recent appointment has been to the governing board of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) in February 2023. He is also a mentor in the ICCA’s mentorship program where he mentors young arbitrators across the globe. He was nominated by Kenya to the ICSID Panel of Arbi- trators and Mediators, as well as to the ICC Commission on Arbitration in 2022. Notably, he served on the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration board for 8 years.
Some of his notable appointments include ICCA Governing Board; ICSID Panel of Arbitra- tors; ICC Commission on Arbitration and Mediation; Mediation Accreditation Committee; Member of the team that formulated the Mediation (Pilot Project) Rules, 2015; Judiciary Court-Annexed Mediation Task Force; Bar-Bench Committee of the High Court (Commer- cial Division); Chairman of the Sports Dispute Tribunal; Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; Chair of the Appeals Committee of the Advertising Standard Board; Convenor of the Law Society of Kenya Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee; Committee appointed by the Council of Law Society to review the rules on marketing and advertising; Ad Hoc Committee appointed by the Council of Law Society to advise on the naming of Law Firms and the impact of the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2011.
Judy Rugasira Kyanda is the Managing Director of Knight Frank, a UK-based real estate firm in Uganda. She has served as Vice President of the Association of Real Estate Agents (AREA) Uganda (2012-2014), Director of the Africa Real Estate Society (AFRES), and an hon- orary member of Enterprise Group-Uganda. She is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) which demonstrates qualification and work experience to the highest industry standards.
Ms. Rugasira Kyanda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Land Management and a Mas- ter of Science degree in International Real Estate from the University of Reading.
Professor Andrew Khaukha is the Judiciary Technical Advisor of Uganda. He is responsible for ad- vising the Chief Justice and the Judiciary top management on the desired reforms that promote efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of Justice. Among these include proposals that informed the development of the Civil Procedure (Amendment) Rules, S.I. No 33/2019, Constitution (Integration of ICT into the Adjudication Processes for Courts ofJudicature) (Practice) Directions, L.N. No 6/2019, Constitution (Recusal of Judicial Officers) (Practice) Directions, L.N. No 7/2019, Judicature (Judicial Review) (Amendment) Rules, S.I. No 32/2019, Judicature (Court Bailiffs) (Practice) Rules, S.I. No 53/2022, Judicature (Amicus Curiae) Rules, S.I. No 54/2022, the Judicature (Plea-Bargain) Rules, S.I. No 43/2016, Constitution (Bail Guidelines forthe Courts ofJudicature) (Practice) Directions, L.N. No 8/2022 and the Judicature (Legal Representation at the Expense ofthe State) Rules, S.I. No 55/2022.
Professor Andrew also contributed to the development of the case backlog reduction strat- egy of the Judiciary and the schedule of duties for Registrars and Magistrates. These re-forms have been instrumental in promoting judicial accountability, business-oriented and yet people-centric judicial processes. He has worked on the rationalizing of the Inspectorate of Courts; rationalizing staff posting to the workload; opening up the Judiciary to the public through the establishment of a vibrant public relations office; leading the drafting of the 4th Strategic Investment Plan for the Judiciary and rolling out of plea bargaining and promoting a better understanding of the role of the Judiciary to the Legislature and the Executive.
Before joining the Judiciary, he worked at the Uganda Law Reform Commission for 13 years as a Senior Legal Officer and worked on several reforms including reform of the law on sentencing, developing a legal framework on financial leasing for Uganda, and reform of the law on domestic relations.
Professor Khaukha holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Di- ploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He also holds a Master of Laws degree from Makerere University and a postgraduate diploma in Legislative Drafting from International Law Institute Washington DC. Additionally, he holds a certificate in Alterna- tive Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Master of Dispute Resolution from the same university and also pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy at Makerere University.
Professor was appointed adjunct Professor at the Pepperdine Caruso Law School 24255E Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu CA 90263, United States.
Phiona Kiwanuka is legal counsel for Jumia Uganda, an e-commerce business that oper- ates e-commerce platforms for the sale and purchase of consumer goods.
As legal counsel, she is responsible for ensuring that the business operations conform to the laws and regulations governing e-commerce business. She is responsible for spear- heading the implementation of consumer protection and data privacy and protection projects in the e-commerce space following the laws and regulations.
Before this, she was an In-House Legal Manager at Africell Uganda Limited with a focus on stakeholder management, legal risk management, and corporate governance. Phiona has a keen interest in tech-based companies and during her legal career has advised technol- ogy investors on regulatory frameworks affecting the telecommunication and technology (fintech and e-commerce) ecosystems.
Ruth Sebatindira is the founding partner of Ligomarc Advocates. She is a Senior Counsel having served as President Uganda Law Society (2013 – 2016).
Ruth has built her expertise out of twenty-three years of commercial litigation and trans- actions advisory assignments mainly in; corporate insolvency, company/shareholder dis- putes, and lender enforcement actions. Other areas of expertise include tax and corporate advisory, intellectual property, and commercial projects contracts and negotiations.
Ruth Sebatindira is also a Commissioner at the Judicial Service Commission which advises the President of Uganda on the appointment of Judges, exercises disciplinary control over Judicial officers, and advises on the administration of Justice in Uganda. In this role, Ruth focuses on improving access to justice and restoring judicial integrity.
Ruth helped to set up the Women Lawyers Committee at the Uganda Law Society in 2011 and served as its first Chair. Ruth is a regular speaker at women’s and leadership confer- ences. She mentors young professionals in their careers and leadership journey. Ruth also speaks to children in schools about responsible leadership.
As Board Chair of Special Olympics Uganda, Ruth works to end discrimination against peo- ple with intellectual disabilities through Olympic-type sports.
Ruth holds an LLM from The University of Manchester, UK. She is a member of the Uganda Law Society, East Africa Law Society, International Bar Association, International Fiscal As- sociation, and Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).
Olivia Kyarimpa Matovu is a partner at Ligomarc Advocates. Olivia heads the Dispute Resolution practice of the firm. Her ten years of experience covers representing financial institutions and corporate entities in contractual disputes, security enforcement, and employment matters.
Before focusing mainly on dispute resolution, Olivia spearheaded the firm’s securities au- dit and perfections practice to support risk teams in financial institutions. She has also worked on tax transaction assignments in the areas of corporate tax and customs.
Olivia is a member of the Ugandan Faculty of Justice Advocacy Africa, a non-government organization, affiliated with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Minnesota, that trains Advocates and Lawyers in Trial Advocacy skills, where her services in this regard are on a pro-bono basis. She is also a member of the Uganda Law Society, East African Society, Young International Arbitration Lawyers and the Editorial Board of the Uganda Law Re- ports. She is also a lecturer at the Law Development Centre where she shares her knowl- edge and skills with upcoming advocates.
Francis Gimara, SC, is a consummate reputable legal professional, currently heading the Af- rica Law Practice (ALP) Group in Uganda and East Africa, the first fully integrated law firm in the region set up to majorly support cross-border business transactions and regional integration initiatives.
Francis has in the recent past served as President of the Uganda Law Society, and through innovative leadership, several initiatives were rolled out in his tenure. One such initiative is the set up of the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation in Kampala, a critical institution for the provision of Alternative Dispute Resolution services in Uganda. He is also one of the founders and directors of the Centre for Public Interest Law in Uganda.
Gimara is a member of the Rule of Law Committee of the East African Law Society is a regular practitioner in the East African Court of Justice and a Consultant to the East African Community on legal matters. In addition, he is the current Chairperson of the Public Procurement Disposal of Assets Appeals Tribunal, a body charged with the resolution of public procurement disputes under the PPDA Act.
Hon. Norbert MAO is the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
He is the current President of the Democratic Party, having been elected to that position in February 2010. He ran for President of Uganda during the 2011 general elections. He is chairperson of the East African Chapter of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and member of its Secretariat. Further, he helped found the Great Lakes Parliamentary Forum on Peace (AMANI Forum).
Hon. Mao holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University (1992), a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (1993), and was called to the Bar in Uganda in 1994. He was admitted to the Yale World Fellows Program at Yale University, where he spent one year at the New Haven, Connecticut campus (2003). He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university.
Hon. Justice Richard BUTEERA is the Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda and head of the Court of Appeal/Constitutional Court of Uganda, having been appointed to that position in 2020. Previously, he served as justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda (2017-2020) and had, prior to that appointment, served as a justice of the Court of Appeal.
Prior to appointment to judicial roles, Hon. Justice Buteera served as a Magistrate and Chief Registrar of Courts, and later Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Hon. Justice Buteera holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university.
Hon. Justice Flavian ZEIJA is the Principal Judge, and the head of the High Court of Uganda, having been appointed to that position in 2019. Previously, he served as a judge of the High Court of Uganda (2016-2019), and was assigned as Resident Judge of Mbarara High Court Circuit, the largest circuit in the country.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Hon. Justice Zeija was in private legal practice, with wide experience as a practicing attorney, starting as a legal assistant with Kwesigabo, Bamwine, Walubiri & Company Advocates (1998-2002); manager legal and recovery at Tropical Africa Bank (2002-2003). He also worked at FINCA Uganda Limited as legal counsel. At the time of his appointment to the High Court of Uganda, he served as the managing partner at Zeija, Mukasa & Company Advocates. In addition to practicing law, Hon. Justice Zeija taught law at Uganda Christian University, Makerere University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). At MUBS, he served as the founding head of the department of Business Law.
Hon. Justice Zeija holds the Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University (1996) and Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (1997). He also holds a Master of Laws degree from Makerere University (2002) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the University of Dar es Salaam (2013). He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Uganda Martyrs University (2018). He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of the United Kingdom (since 2012).
Hon. Justice Mike CHIBITA is a justice of Supreme Court of Uganda, serving in that position since 2020. Previously, he served as the Director of Public Prosecutions in Uganda (2013-2019) and as a judge of the High Court of Uganda (2010-2013). His other positions as a lawyer have included State Attorney at the Attorney General’s Chambers (1994-1996, 2003-2005); Private Secretary for Legal Affairs in the Office of the President of Uganda (1996-2003) and Assistant Commissioner in the Commissioner General’s Office at the Uganda Revenue Authority (2005-2010). Further, he lectured on International Relations and African History at the Northwestern University in St. Paul, Roseville, Minnesota (1993).
Hon. Justice Chibita holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University (1988); and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and was called to the Bar in Uganda in 1990. He also holds a Master of Laws in International and Comparative Law from the University of Iowa (1992). He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university.
Ms. Sarah Arapta is the Chief Executive for Citibank Uganda, a position she was appointed to in January 2016. Sarah has an extensive and illustrious career in Corporate and Investment Banking of over 20 years, 12 of which have been spent in Citibank; She has held a number of senior positions in Barclay’s Bank of Uganda as Director, CIB and prior to that as Head Corporate Banking and Head Investment Banking in Stanbic Bank Uganda.
Sarah is the first woman and indeed first Ugandan to be appointed Chief Executive and Managing Director of Citibank in Uganda. Sarah holds an MBA from Herriot-Watt University Edinburgh Business School Scotland and a B.A Economics from Makerere University Kampala .
Sarah is the current Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA)
She is an advocate of Women empowerment and is passionate about delivering with impact . Sarah is an ardent jogger and swimmer.
Anne Juuko is a Ugandan investment banker and corporate executive, who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited. She took up this appointment on 1 March 2020.
She started her banking career in 2001. For a period in the 2000s, she served as vice president and Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities at Citibank Uganda Limited. She was then transferred to Citibank Kenya Limited, serving there as vice president, Customer Sales and Derivatives Marketing, for two years, from June 2010 until June 2012.
In 2012, she was hired by Standard Bank Group, as head of Global Markets for Stanbic Bank Uganda, serving in that capacity until December 2017. In January 2018, she took up a new appointment as Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank Namibia, a role she served in until February 2020.
On 1 March 2020, Juuko replaced Patrick Mweheire, as CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, becoming the first female Ugandan to serve in this position. Mweheire was appointed Regional Chief Executive at Standard Bank Group, responsible for Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University. A Master of Strategic Planning from Heriot-Watt University Business School, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. Ms Juuko has also completed various professional courses and programmes in leadership and management.

Hon. Justice Geoffrey KIRYABWIRE is a Justice of the Court of Appeal of Uganda, serving in that position since 2013. Previously, he served as a Judge of the Commercial Division of the High Court of Uganda, serving as the Head of the Division (2003-2013). He also served as the Vice President and Justice of the Appellate Division of the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) (2015-2022).
Prior to his judicial appointments, Hon. Justice Kiryabwire served as a legal assistant to the Minister of Justice/Attorney General of Uganda (1991-1992); Senior State Attorney for Civil Litigation in the Office of the Solicitor General of Uganda (1992-1994). Thereafter, he served as Company Secretary and Legal Counsel at Pan World Insurance Company Limited (PWICO) (1993-1999); and Acting General Manager and Chief Executive Officer at PWICO (1999-2003).
During his legal career, Hon. Justice Kiryabwire participated in four national commissions of inquiry as: Lead Counsel to the commission of inquiry into the four bank failures in Uganda in the late 1990s and early 2000s; Member of the commission of inquiry into the purchase of “junk helicopters” by the Uganda People’s Defence Force during the 1990s; Secretary to the Porter Commission of Inquiry into Mismanagement of Criminal Cases in Uganda; and Secretary to the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of Corruption in the Uganda Revenue Authority.
Hon. Justice Kiryabwire holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University (1984); and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and was called to the Bar in Uganda in 1987. He also holds a Master of Laws in International Law with a bias in International Economic Law from the University of London (1990). He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university. His Lordship is also a fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators-London.

Hon. Justice Andrew BYABASHAIJA is a judge on the High Court of Uganda, having been appointed to that position on 17 June 2010.
Prior to his ascension to the bench, Hon. Justice Byabashaija was senior partner in the law firm of Pearl Advocates and Solicitors. He also served as a senior lecturer at the School of Law, Kampala International University and served as an external examiner at the Law Development Centre. He was first appointed to the bench as a Grade One Magistrate (1992) and was promoted to the rank of Registrar (2000).
Hon. Justice Byabashaija holds the Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He also holds a Master of Development Studies degree from Makerere University. He has a Doctor of Philosophy degree in business administration was obtained from Washington International University, an online unaccredited institution based in the British Virgin Islands.
Hon. Justice Richard Wejuli Wabwire is a judge on the High Court of Uganda, having been appointed to that position on 8 February 2018, initially posted to the High Court Circuit in the city of Fort Portal and reassigned to the Commercial Division of the High Court in 2019. He has been seconded as a judge of the First Instance Division of the East African Court of Justice since 2021.
Prior to his judicial appointment to the High Court, Hon. Justice Wejuli Wabriwe served in various high profile corporate positions, including as the Company Secretary and Legal Counsel/Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, BAT (1998-2005); Corporation Secretary, Kinyara Sugar Works Limited (2006-2008); Director, Corporate Relations and Regulatory Affairs, East African Breweries Uganda Limited (2012-2014); Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Affairs at the National Social Security (2014-2018).

Hon. Lady Justice Harriet Grace MAGALA is a judge on the High Court of Uganda, having been appointed to that position in 2021.
Prior to her judicial appointment, Hon. Justice Magala was the founding, Member of the firm. Enrolled in 2003 as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, she has acquired vast knowledge in different fields of legal practices both in Uganda and beyond. Dr Michael ATINGI-EGO is the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda. As a career Ugandan economist, he has previously served as the MEFMI Executive Director, a policy think-tank in Southern Africa. He is a seasoned economic policy official who has served in several capacities at various institutions.
Dr Atingi-Ego started his career at the Bank of Uganda rising through the ranks to become the Executive Director, Research. In 2008, he took up an assignment as Deputy Director of the African Department with the International Monetary Fund (IMF-AFR), where he made seminal contributions to IMF work on increasing effectiveness of capacity development and in modernizing monetary policy frameworks in developing countries. He championed efforts to achieve improved macro-economic statistics in the SSA region and in advancing better and more consistent data management practices across the IMF. In addition, he provided strategic guidance to many IMF country teams in the region on program and surveillance work.
Dr Atingi-Ego holds a Bachelor’s degree from Makerere University, a Master’s degree from the Cardiff Business School, University of Wales (1991), and Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Liverpool (1996).
H.E. Jan SADEK is the Ambassador of the European Union to Uganda. He is a career diplomat who has served in the Swedish and European Foreign Services for more than 25 years, out of which 14 years are in Africa—The Sudan, Ethiopia, and now Botswana. Prior to his current post, Sadek was representing EU in Botswana and vis-à-vis SADC.
In Africa, the Swedish diplomat previously worked on regional integration, representing his country’s vis-à-vis the African Union and IGAD, and the European Union vis-à-vis SADC.
By training, Ambassador Sadek has a degree in medicine, and has also served as a UN Officer during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and as a member of the OSCE Mission to Sarajevo, in 1994-1995.
Professor Jim GASH is the eighth President and Chief Executive Officer of Pepperdine University on August 1, 2019. The first alumnus to lead Pepperdine as president, Professor Gash has served the University in a professional capacity since 1999. Prior to assuming the presidency, he was the associate dean for strategic planning and external relations at the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, where he provided operational oversight for many signature development initiatives. As a 20-year Caruso Law professor, his primary areas of focus included evidence, torts, and international human rights.
Recognized globally for his transformative work in international justice reform, Gash has devoted himself to advancing the rule of law in developing countries and, since 2010, has visited Uganda nearly 30 times with Pepperdine students and alumni to support the Judiciary, having served as a specialist advisor to the High Court of Uganda since 2012.
In 2016, Professor Gash published his first book, Divine Collision: An African Boy, An American Lawyer, and Their Remarkable Battle for Freedom, which chronicles how his life and the Ugandan criminal justice system were dramatically changed as a result of meeting a Ugandan teenage prisoner during his first visit to Uganda. The following year, Revolution Pictures released the award-winning documentary REMAND about the work of the Sudreau Global Justice Program at Pepperdine Law, which Professor Gash led as its director from 2012 to 2019.
Upon graduating from Caruso Law in 1993, Professor Gash worked for the litigation firm DeSimone & Tropio and clerked for the Honorable Edith H. Jones, United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Houston, Texas. He also practiced law for four years at Kirkland & Ellis both in Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, California, until he joined Pepperdine as an associate professor of law in 1999.
As a member of the State Bar of California, Professor Gash is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the US District Court for the Central District of California. He is also a member of the Christian Legal Society.
In recognition of his ongoing efforts abroad, Professor Gash received the 2013 Warren Christopher Award, which annually recognizes the State Bar of California’s international lawyer of the year. He was named as a 2018 recipient of the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award, presented annually to 10 educators from around the nation for demonstrated excellence in mentoring. In 2018, he was appointed as the chancellor of LivingStone International University in Mbale, Uganda.
Professor Gash holds a Bachelor’s degree in finance, summa cum laude, from Abilene Christian University and a juris doctor degree, summa cum laude, from the Pepperdine School of Law, where he finished first in his class and served as the editor in chief of the Pepperdine Law Review.
Professor Jack COE is the Faculty Director of the LLM Concentration in International Commercial Arbitration. He is listed in Who’s Who Legal for Arbitration, and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an elected member of the American Law Institute, and an associate reporter for the Restatement on the U.S. Law of International Commercial Arbitration. Coe has chaired the Disputes Division of the ABA International Law Section, and the Academic Council of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration.
Professor Coe consults with governments and multinational corporations in relation to commercial and direct investment disputes under the treaties and has both argued international arbitral claims and acted as arbitrator in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations. He is on the arbitrator panel of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) of the American Arbitration Association. His consultancies and arbitral appointments have involved him in a wide variety of commercial topics including production sharing agreements, mining joint-ventures, patent cross-licensings and domain name management. He is admitted to practice in California and Washington, and holds the Diploma of the Hague Academy of International Law.
Professor Coe’s training includes advanced studies and work assignments in Europe, including a two-year post at the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal at the Hague. He has been a Rotary International Graduate Fellow, a Salzburg Seminar Fellow, and a Fellow of the NYU Center for Transnational Litigation, Arbitration and Commercial Law.
Professor Coe is a regular speaker in the United States and abroad and has taught in several international programs including at the Academy for the Center for American and International Law. He has authored numerous books and articles on arbitration, private international law, and related topics.
Professor Coe teaches International Business Transactions, International Commercial Arbitration, International Investment Disputes, International Litigation, and Public International Law. Professor Andrew KHAUKHA is the Senior Technical Advisor at Judiciary of Uganda. In that role as technical advisor, he has served as a resource person on several reforms in the Judiciary and in advising the leadership of the Judiciary in judicial reforms. He was instrumental in the piloting of plea bargaining at the Nakawa High Court circuit (covering Nakawa, Mubende, Kiboga and Entebbe) in 2014.
He has been instrumental in reforming the Judiciary into an accountable, business oriented and yet a people centric institution. In particular, he has worked on the restructuring of the Judiciary, designing a case backlog reduction strategy; reforming and rationalizing the Inspectorate of Courts; developing a schedule of duties for Registrars and Magistrates; rationalizing staff posting to the workload; open up the Judiciary to the public through the establishment of a vibrant public relations office; leading the drafting of the 4th Strategic Investment Plan for the Judiciary; Reform of Sentencing and roll out of plea bargaining and promoting better understanding of the role of the Judiciary to the Legislature and the Executive.
Previously, he served as Senior Legal Officer at the Uganda Law Reform Commission. He has been secretary, lead researcher/resource person of several committees of the Judiciary.
Professor Khaukha holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University (2003) and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre (2004). He also holds a Master of Laws degree from Makerere University and postgraduate diploma in Legislative Drafting from International Law Institute Washington DC. He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from STRAUS Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university. He is currently pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy at Makerere University.
Francis GIMARA, SC is a well-respected attorney with cross-cutting experience in areas of Regional Integration Law (acting as pioneer of the field in East Africa), Corporate Governance Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (mediation and arbitration), Banking and Finance Law, International Trade Law, Insolvency Practice, and Procurement and Disposal of Assets Law. He was ranked and recognized by Chambers Global 2022 as “a well-established reputation in the country for his arbitration counsel work, as well as his advice on business integration”.
Presently, Mr. Gimara heads the Africa Law Practice (ALP) East Africa, the first fully integrated law firm set up to support cross-border trade/business transactions and regional integration initiatives. He is the current Chairperson of the PPDA Appeals Tribunal, and is a member of the Judiciary Law Reform and Case Backlog Monitoring Committees
Mr. Gimara is one of the brains behind the setup of the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation in Kampala (ICAMEK), a critical institution for provision of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services in Uganda. He is a member of the East African Law Society, the Pan African Lawyers Union, and the International Bar Association. He served as President of the Uganda Law Society (2016-17) and was awarded the distinguished honour of Senior Counsel by the Law Society and then Chief Justice in recognition of his contribution to the development of the legal profession.

Rachel Odoi-Musoke has vast experience in human rights and advocacy, legal and policy reforms and justice sector reforms having managed reform programmes and worked in the areas of legal and policy develpment and human rights protection and enforcement.
She began her career in legal aid at the legal aid clinic of the Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA) before moving into private practice and later in the field of environmental law. She also worked as a Researcher focusing on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights at the South African Human Rights Commission from 1999 to 2001. She worked with the Uganda Human Rights Commission from 2001 to 2003, where she headed the south-eastern regional office located in Jinja. Ms. Odoi-Musoke joined the Uganda Law Reform Commission in 2003 as the Principal Legal Officer in charge of Law Reform and Research. She joined the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) Secretariat in 2008 as the Technical Advisor for Commercial and Land Justice. She was appointed Advisor Civil Justice in 2012 and also served as Advisor for Transitional Justice, where she was responsible for supporting the development of the framework for the implementation of the Annexture 3 of the Juba Peace Agreement that addresses Accountability and Reconciliation. Ms. Odoi-Musoke was appointed Deputy Head of the Secretariat in 2014 and Senior Technical Advisor and head of the Secretariat in 2016 where she serves to date. She is passionate about the promotion of human rights with particular focus on women, children and the environment.
Ms. Odoi-Musoke is an advocate of the Courts of Judicature of Uganda of over 24 years standing. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. Ms. Rugasira Kyanda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Land Management and a Master of Science degree in International Real Estate from the University of Reading.
Moses ADRIKO is a Partner at MMAKS and co-head of the firm’s Litigation team. Angelina Namaukula OFWONO is a Ugandan lawyer with a wealth of legal experience in banking, corporate and company secretarial services. Previously, she has worked as Head of Legal/Company Secretary with Barclays Bank of Uganda Limited (now Absa Bank Uganda), Coordinator, Continuing Legal Education at the Uganda Law Society, and as a State Attorney at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Kenneth MUHANGI has specialized in intellectual property law, technology law (with a bias towards digital trade and fintech, data protection and privacy law, the fourth industrial revolution-drones, internet of things, artificial intelligence, big data, genetics) and telecommunications law.
Mr. Muhangi is specialist in the area of intellectual property (IP) and technology. He has conducted specialized trainings in areas of ICT and IP such as, block chain technology, digital banking, digital trade and data protection among others. He teaches intellectual property at Uganda Christian University and has also conducted lectures on Cyber Law at Makerere University, Law School. She is responsible for spearheading the implementation consumer protection and data privacy and protection projects in the ecommerce space in accordance with the laws and regulations. Spearheading the business to obtain the requisite license registration and permits. Prior to this, she was an In-House Legal Manager at Africell Uganda Limited with focus on stakeholder management, legal risk management and corporate governance. Phiona has a keen interest tech- based companies and during her legal career has advised technology investors on regulatory frameworks affecting the telecommunication and technology (fintech and ecommerce) eco systems.
Professor Selina SHULTZ is a highly experienced conflict and organizational consultant, Shultz is the founder and Executive Director of The Conflict Lab, a unique space created to generate people’s finest thinking in conflict. She has mediated thousands of cases over her 25 year career. She has provided training and conflict culture interventions to organizations such as Greenpeace International, FedEx, Home Depot, and The10/27 Healing Partnership.
She is active both locally and internationally in supporting efforts to promote thoughtful approaches to conflict. She helped to form Just Mediation Pittsburgh, a local community mediation center, and currently serves as Board President.
She is the recipient of the Sir Francis Bacon Award presented by the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Council of Mediators’ Most Valuable Peacemaker Award, and the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania’s Conflict Resolution Day Award. Passionate about teaching, Shultz has provided trainings both locally and internationally for organizations and corporations, as well as at the law school level at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law, Duquesne University School of Law, and the Saltman Center at The UNLV School of Law. In 2020, she was awarded the Outstanding Adjunct Award from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law.
Francis ATOKE was appointed Solicitor General of the government of Uganda in December, 2012. He joined the Ministry of Justice as a State Attorney, in January 1987 and rose through the ranks to become a Senior State Attorney in 1991, Principal State Attorney in 1995, and Senior Principal State Attorney in 2004. He was appointed a Deputy Administrator General in 1997, an office he occupied until 2009, when he was elevated to the office of Administrator General, in May 2009.
He was appointed a member of the permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in September 2018.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University; a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and Master of Laws in International Law, majoring in the law of War, Terrorism and Human rights, from the University of Aberdeen Scotland. He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university.
Justice Gadenya Paul WOLIMBWA is a Judge of the High Court at the Criminal Division. He joined public service in 1995 as a Magistrate Grade One, rising to the position of chief magistrate of the white collar criminal court in Uganda. Between May to August 2004, he was a Visiting Professional in the Legal Advisory Section of the International Criminal Court, The Hague, Netherlands. Mr. Gadenya was later assigned acting assistant registrar of the Civil Division of the High Court between 2005 to June 2007.
In 2007, he was appointed deputy registrar, and served at the Civil Division of the High Court. Between July 2008 and August 2009, he served in the same capacity at the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court. He took a break from the bench and went on to work as Senior Technical Advisor of the Justice Law and Order Sector between September 2009 and April 2014. Thereafter, he was appointed the chief registrar of the Judiciary before being appointed as Justice of the High Court of Uganda as Head of Executions and Bailiffs.

Hon. Justice Alfonse OWINY-DOLLO is the Chief Justice of Uganda, serving in that position since August 2020. Previously, he served as Deputy Chief Justice and the head of the Court of Appeal (and the Constitutional Court of Uganda) (2017-2020). Prior, he was appointed and served as a Judge of the High Court (2008-2015)
Prior to his judicial appointments, Hon. Justice Owiny-Dollo served as a Member of the Parliament of Uganda (1996-2001). He played a critical role as legal counsel in peace talks between the Uganda People’s Democratic Movement and the Government of Uganda. Additionally, from 1994 until 1996, he was a member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the 1995 Uganda Constitution. In 1996, he was appointment as minister of state in charge of Northern Uganda Reconstruction Programme (NURP).
Hon. Justice Owiny-Dollo holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and the Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He also holds a Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution from the University of Bradford and has a Certificate in Advanced Conflict Mediation Skills from Centre for Conflict Resolution, South Africa. He holds a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University, Malibu California. He is also currently pursuing a Masters of Dispute Resolution from the same university.
